A cultural reception exploring millinery, identity, and heritage.
Guests are welcomed into Ellis House for an evening devoted to the artistry and history of hats. Upon arrival, sparkling refreshments are offered as guests settle into the atmosphere of the home, while live piano music accompanies the evening throughout.
The program begins with a historical keynote exploring millinery within Red Deer and the surrounding region, tracing how hats have shaped personal identity, social custom, and the language of fashion.
Guests are then invited to move through the rooms of the home where curated displays of historic hats — drawn from museum and private collections — are thoughtfully presented.
In the attic, a special presentation offers a glimpse of the Ellis House Dress Collection— Spring Release, an original garment inspired by Edwardian riding culture, hats, and the early twentieth-century elegance that continues to influence the spirit of Ellis House.
At the conclusion of the display experience, guests gather once more for a reception of conversation and connection. Sparkling refreshments, sweets, and savouries are offered as guests reflect on the collections, share observations, and enjoy the pleasure of discovery together while the piano continues softly in the background.
